About the position

Kforce is seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to join our Database Operations team in a remote capacity. This role is critical as our team manages databases across various cloud environments, specifically Azure and AWS, as well as on-premise systems. The Senior DBA will be responsible for supporting multiple database platforms, including Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL, Azure Synapse, Elasticsearch, CosmosDB, and MySQL. While immediate expertise in all these technologies is not mandatory, a strong willingness and ability to learn and master new skills is essential for success in this position. In this role, the Senior DBA will adhere to established design and quality standards, focusing on security, backup, replication, and monitoring of database systems. The responsibilities include implementing automation for routine database administrative tasks, participating in database upgrades and migrations, and making configuration changes to enhance security and resiliency. The DBA will also monitor data platforms, respond to incidents, and resolve problems as they arise. Following Agile work management processes and software development release cycles is crucial, as is the ability to prioritize and manage work effectively in a fast-paced environment. The Senior DBA will collaborate with cross-functional teams and may also work independently. Ensuring 24x7 availability for critical database systems hosted both on-premise and in the AWS and Azure Cloud is a key responsibility. Participation in an on-call rotation is expected, along with resolving connectivity issues and planning, creating, and supporting high availability database solutions. Additionally, the Senior DBA will document procedures, policies, relationships, and schema to maintain clarity and consistency within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Follow established design and quality standards for security, backup, replication, and monitoring.

  • Follow existing processes for Agile work management and software development release cycles.
  • Prioritize and manage work, adhering to critical project timelines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborate actively with others in a cross-functional team or work independently.
  • Ensure 24x7 availability for critical database systems hosted on-premise and on AWS & Azure Cloud.
  • Participate in on-call rotation.
  • Resolve connectivity issues.
  • Plan, create, and support high availability database solutions.
  • Document procedures, policies, relationships, and schema.

Requirements

  • MS/Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems or a related field; Or equivalent work experience.
  • 4-7 years as a DBA, Data Engineer, or similar role.
  • 2-5 years of PowerShell experience is preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience with one or more of the following: SSAS, SSIS, and SSRS.
  • Previous experience with Azure Synapse is helpful.
