The Senior Director of Advancement Services at Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) plays a crucial role in enhancing fundraising efforts and donor engagement. This position involves overseeing the management of the fundraising database and prospect management system, while providing strategic direction for all advancement operations, including gift processing, donor relations, and stewardship initiatives. The ideal candidate will be committed to WSSU's mission of equitable education and will develop data-driven strategies to improve fundraising capabilities and foster lasting donor relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the management of the fundraising database and prospect management system.
  • Provide strategic direction for all advancement operations, including gift processing and donor relations.
  • Analyze donor data and trends to support strategic decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with gift processing procedures and regulations.
  • Identify, research, and manage prospective donors.
  • Design and implement personalized stewardship plans that align with donor expectations.
  • Optimize processes and automate workflows to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Manage financial data related to fundraising, including tracking donations and budgeting.
  • Prepare reports and present data to engage stakeholders effectively.
  • Oversee multiple concurrent initiatives and ensure deadlines are met.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience in advancement services or a related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, nonprofit management, information systems, or a related field required.
  • Master's degree in nonprofit management, business administration, or higher education administration preferred.
  • Expertise in managing fundraising databases such as Raiser's Edge or Salesforce.
  • Strong knowledge of gift processing procedures and IRS guidelines for charitable contributions.
  • Proficiency in developing prospect pipelines and moves management strategies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to prepare reports and engage stakeholders.
  • Strong project management skills to oversee multiple initiatives.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certifications in fundraising management or nonprofit leadership (such as CFRE) preferred.
  • Advanced training in donor database systems and data analytics.
  • Ongoing professional development in fundraising best practices and donor stewardship.

Benefits

  • Commensurate salary based on education and experience.
  • Permanent full-time position with a normal work schedule of 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday.
