About the position

As a Senior Echocardiograph Technician at the UCLA Santa Monica Cardiology Clinic, you will play a crucial role in the cardiac imaging team under the supervision of the Cardiac Imaging Physicians. Your primary responsibility will be to perform comprehensive echocardiographic studies, including 2-dimensional echoes, M-mode, and Doppler studies. You will be expected to notify the Cardiac Imaging Physicians promptly via pager for any urgent or pre-operative echo readings, ensuring that patient care is prioritized and that critical information is communicated effectively. Additionally, you will prepare preliminary interpretations of the studies conducted, which will assist in the timely diagnosis and treatment of patients. In this position, you will also be responsible for maintaining accurate records pertinent to the echo studies performed. This includes preparing and maintaining logs of procedures, tracking charge documents, and ensuring that all studies are billed and collected appropriately. You will be expected to perform other duties as assigned by the Cardiac Imaging Physicians and the Manager, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the clinic's operations. Your role will require a strong understanding of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology, as well as the ability to apply this knowledge in a clinical setting. You will need to demonstrate proficiency in using ultrasound technology and possess the manual dexterity required to operate the echo machine effectively. Strong interpersonal skills are essential, as you will interact with patients, physicians, nurses, and other staff members in a professional and courteous manner. The ability to work independently and manage your time effectively will be critical to your success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all 2-dimensional echoes, M-mode, and Doppler studies.
  • Notify Cardiac Imaging Physicians for any urgent and/or pre-operative echo readings.
  • Prepare preliminary interpretations of echo studies.
  • Maintain records pertinent to echo studies.
  • Prepare and maintain logs of procedures and track charge documents.
  • Ensure all studies are billed and collected for.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Cardiac Imaging Physicians and Manager.

Requirements

  • Graduate of Cardiac Echocardiography Technology Program.
  • Ability to be registered in The American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) and/or with Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) within six months of employment.
  • BCLS certification through AHA or ARC with the ability to deliver basic cardiac life support.
  • Knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology.
  • Ability to apply theory to practice in ultrasound techniques for clinical evaluation.
  • Ability to push a 500+ lb. echo machine for distances up to 100 feet.
  • Skill and manual dexterity to manipulate transducer and controls on the echo machine.
  • Proficiency in using PC and word processing software to generate written preliminary reports.
  • Ability to make preliminary evaluations of echo studies and generate reports.
  • Ability to work independently and complete tasks in a timely manner with minimal direction.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients and staff.
