About the position

The Senior Director of Finance oversees all aspects of the general ledger accounting and supervises the accounting department. This role involves managing cash balances, investments, and banking relationships, as well as overseeing the annual audit and tax return preparation. The Senior Director will manage the month-end close-out process, prepare monthly revenue analyses, and work closely with the Controller to produce cash flow analyses and forecasts. Additionally, this position is responsible for the bi-weekly disbursement of payroll and assists with the creation and implementation of the annual budget. The Senior Director will participate in regular meetings with program leadership, provide financial reports, and serve as a liaison between programs and finance. This role also includes analyzing key vendor relationships and ensuring grants are maximized in collaboration with external consultants.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees all aspects of the general ledger accounting
  • Supervises the accounting department, develops goals, conducts regular check-in meetings, and provides feedback and support
  • Manages cash balances, investments, and banking relationships
  • Oversees the annual audit and tax return preparation
  • Manages the month-end close-out process
  • Prepares the monthly DMH revenue analysis and enters the monthly journal entry
  • Works with Controller to produce cash flow analyses and forecasts
  • Responsible for the bi-weekly disbursement of payroll including garnishments, benefits, and taxes
  • Assists with the creation and implementation of the annual budget
  • Performs regular projections and assists with budget modifications
  • Participates in regular meetings with program leadership and provides financial reports
  • Analyzes key vendor relationships to ensure maximum cost savings
  • Works with external consultants to ensure grants are maximized and program staff are informed of grant performance
  • Participates in Board, Finance Committee, and Audit Committee meetings

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred
  • 10 or more years' progressive experience in finance required, non-profit finance experience preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of cost center accounting is a must, government grant experience preferred
  • 5 years or more experience managing staff with a commitment to coaching and developing staff
  • Detail oriented with excellent leadership, time management, organizational, written, verbal, interpersonal and computer skills
  • Able to work in high-pressure situations and meet deadlines
  • Valid CA Driver's license, reliable car, auto insurance, and an acceptable driving record
