The Senior Grant Writer position at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) is a pivotal role within the Department of Medicine, specifically in the Division of Gastroenterology. This department is the largest within the UCSD School of Medicine, employing a diverse team of approximately 500 faculty members, 168 academic appointees, 331 residents, fellows, and postdocs, along with 479 staff personnel. The division is engaged in significant research studies focusing on Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH) and Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) in adult patients, contributing to a multi-center study funded by the NIH, known as the Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatitis Clinical Research Network (NASHCRN). This initiative aims to explore the etiology, contributing factors, natural history, complications, and therapies related to NASH and NAFLD, with UCSD being one of eight sites nationwide involved in this critical research. The Senior Grant Writer will operate under the general supervision of the Operations Manager, taking on the responsibility of researching, developing, and writing grant proposals that align with the overall fundraising goals and strategic planning of the department. This role requires conducting needs assessments, overseeing data collection, analyzing program activities, and ensuring the successful submission of proposals with minimal supervision. The incumbent will be tasked with organizing and interpreting complex data to facilitate clear communication, which is essential for the success of grant applications. In addition to writing and editing comprehensive materials, the Senior Grant Writer will ensure stylistic consistency, logical flow, and content development across various documents. This includes researching and selecting appropriate sources, conducting interviews, and ensuring the accuracy of all written work. The role also involves recommending content and layout, editing, and coordinating the production of printed and online materials, as well as facilitating the conversion of print materials to digital formats for archiving purposes. The position is integral to the department's mission of advancing research and education in the field of medicine, particularly in gastroenterology.
