About the position

The Senior Hardware Engineer at Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is responsible for designing custom circuit technology for software-defined radio applications, focusing on end-to-end communications systems. This role involves leading the development of portable communication devices and miniature wireless systems, engaging with sponsors to address complex national security challenges, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to deliver innovative solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development of portable communication devices and miniature wireless systems through board-level integration of RF and high-speed digital components.
  • Support evaluation and testing of prototype and deliverable devices through lab and field testing, debugging, and troubleshooting.
  • Engage with sponsors to understand and solve their toughest problems and lead a multidisciplinary team to develop unique solutions.
  • Initiate and contribute to design reviews, system integration and documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer or electrical engineering or a relevant field.
  • 10+ years of hardware design and development experience with RF, analog, and high-speed digital circuit design.
  • Understanding of low level RF system design and custom circuitry.
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams of engineers.
  • Ability to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance.
