NorthStar Medical Radioisotopes is seeking a Senior Health Physicist (SHP) to join our rapidly growing team. The SHP will play a crucial role in promoting a culture of safety within the organization by advancing radiation, health, and safety programs that ensure a healthy working environment and compliance with various regulations. These regulations include those established by Wisconsin for radioactive material and electron accelerators, as well as OSHA, DOT/IATA, EPA, NRC, and Agreement States. The SHP will support the company in identifying, evaluating, managing, and preventing hazards in challenging research, manufacturing, and production workplaces. This position is vital for maintaining the safety and compliance of our operations, which are focused on providing therapeutic radioisotopes and novel radiopharmaceuticals to detect and treat cancer. In this role, the SHP will mentor and train health physicists and technicians involved in radiation safety, hazardous material training, and regulatory compliance work. The SHP will also be responsible for developing and maintaining procedures and training materials related to handling TBq levels of radioactivity, transportation of Type A and B packages, personnel and environmental monitoring, and the design and operation of high-energy electron accelerator facilities. Additionally, the SHP will assist in the continual improvement of radiation, health, and safety programs, including conducting program audits, preparing situation and incident reports, and revising policy manuals and procedures. The SHP will contribute to managing radioactive material licenses and accelerator registrations, ensuring timely submission of renewals, amendments, and updates. This position requires professional tact and insight during collaborations with technical staff on research and development projects, manufacturing processes, shielding plans, ALARA practices, and interlock and safety systems. The SHP will also manage radioactive and hazardous materials and wastes, ensuring appropriate disposition, and may represent NorthStar at various community, business, or professional meetings. Auditing compliance with regulatory and good practice standards is also a key responsibility, as is assessing and communicating safety and quality issues raised by staff or customers for effective remediation. The SHP may serve as the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) for Madison and/or Beloit as required by the company.
