About the position

The Senior Information Technologist - Network at the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office is responsible for resolving advanced service desk tickets, troubleshooting technology issues, and managing multiple major projects. This role requires technical leadership and the ability to design and implement advanced technology solutions to meet the agency's needs. The position is essential, requiring attendance during emergencies or natural disasters, and involves participation in recruitment and community relations activities.

Responsibilities

  • Resolves advanced service desk tickets and customer reported problems.
  • Troubleshoots and returns technology to service within discipline at an advanced level.
  • Manages and performs effectively personal daily activities and multiple major projects under the discipline of defined business processes.
  • Identifies and analyzes complex problems; distinguishes between relevant and irrelevant information to make logical decisions; provides solutions to problems.
  • Designs and implements technology at an advanced level within the discipline.
  • Recommends and implements changes to improve operational efficiencies.
  • Demonstrates technical leadership when working with peers and customers to achieve long-term solutions for a variety of agency technology needs.
  • Contributes to project plans/schedules, and coordinates requirements, tasks, work assignments, resources and critical milestones, focusing on priority tasks.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required as an essential function of the position.
  • Participates in Sheriff's Office recruitment and community relations activities as directed.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Technology or related field.
  • Six (6) years' experience in information technology specific to the assigned discipline that includes customer service.
  • Proficiency in manipulation of Cisco IOS, fluent with IOS command line interface, packet sniffers and other network toolsets.
  • Expert knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, QOS, VOIP, RIP, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, IPsec, SSL VPN, Multicast, Spanning Tree and other Internet protocols.
  • Expert in designing, configuring, implementing, and monitoring layer 2 and layer 3 network equipment (Primarily Cisco) to support an enterprise network.
  • Ability to lead and manage complex projects, to include using Work breakdown structures, Gnatt Charts, and other scheduling tools as necessary.
  • CCNP or equivalent knowledge required.
  • Must be able to acquire FCIC/NCIC certification (provided after employment).
  • Must possess a valid Florida driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience implementing and designing Cisco Wireless APs/controllers, Cisco ISE, and/or Palo Alto firewalls preferred.
