About the position

We are hiring a Senior Instrumentation and Controls Automation Engineer to join our team at Eichleay. This position will be based in South San Francisco working onsite a leading bio-pharmaceutical facility. This is a full-time position with Eichleay. As a Senior Instrumentation and Controls Automation Engineer at Eichleay you will work within multi-discipline project teams to complete the design, engineering and construction of Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) scope for various and diverse projects. This position will function as an embedded full-time role supporting projects within the Design and Construction. This role will independently apply broad knowledge of principles and practices in the I&C discipline and may work on several moderate sized and complex projects at a time, review documents for conformity, quality assurance and perform deliverable checking. You will be responsible for ensuring design solutions that meet user, site, and regulatory/code requirements. Estimated start date: January 6, 2025. *Option to start sooner is available. Compensation: $160,000- $210,000 *anticipated annual salary may vary based on skills, experience, qualifications and internal peer equity. The pay range listed for this position is based on the anticipated base compensation at the time of the posting.

Responsibilities

  • Onsite Monday - Friday
  • Function as an owner representative supporting the client's engineering teams on projects throughout planning and execution including Project Initiation, Design, Construction, Turnover and Closeout.
  • Participate in site walks, URB development, risk assessments, scope definition and schedule review.
  • Foster collaboration across multiple disciplines during the design and construction phases of projects.
  • Review vendor proposals to ensure compliance and oversee all automation scope associated with construction, installation and commissioning.
  • Oversee Factory and Site Acceptance Testing, as required, and assist with system troubleshooting during startup.
  • Review instrumentation and control systems scope of work, establish budgets and schedules, and professional labor hour estimates.
  • Coordinate required automation documentation such as Automation Change Records are completed and closed.
  • Work effectively as part of multi-discipline project teams.
  • Perform general review of all aspects of project deliverables with minimal supervision.
  • Support P&ID development and possess an understanding of process controls.
  • Ensure all applicable design documents (P&IDs, Control Drawings, and lifecycle documents) are submitted and approved in EDMS.
  • Support development of Instrument Index, I/O List, and all design deliverables.
  • Participate in HAZOP and LOPA reviews as necessary.
  • Check engineering and design documents and provide technical direction for selection of items to be specified or purchased.
  • Experience with the selection, and sizing of various field instrumentation, analyzer systems, flow measurement devices, control valves, and PSVs in industrial and sanitary applications.
  • Review vendor data to ensure specifications and project requirements are met.
  • Perform job walks to optimize design and constructability, and to ensure installations are completed per design packages.
  • Support construction commissioning activities.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of networking and security concepts for industrial control systems, motor control, PLCs and DCS.
  • Interface with client subject matter experts (SME) and field construction staff.
  • Demonstrate awareness and commitment to health, safety, and environmental issues.
  • Ability to deal with change and demonstrate flexibility as required.
  • Adhere to required processes and embrace opportunities for continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering or scientific discipline from an ABET accredited program.
  • Over ten years of experience with advance knowledge in I&C engineering.
  • Experience with Rockwell Automation and Siemens Insight / Desigo CC platforms.
  • Knowledge in biopharmaceuticals, utility support systems, Building Automation Systems and cGMP operations is preferred.
  • Experience with equipment lifecycle documentation such as User Requirements, Functional, Software Design, Hardware Design and Alarm Specifications is required.
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated success with ability to plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate assigned engineering work and projects.
  • Knowledgeable in industry safe work practices in the field.
  • Excellent computer skills in Google and Microsoft Suite.
  • Working knowledge of a broad range of industry standards including NFPA, API, ASME, ANSI, ISA, ISPE, cGMPs.
  • Familiarity with developing documents according to GAMP.
  • Knowledge of ANSI/ISA S88 batch design with configuration of physical and procedural models is a plus.
  • Ability to work onsite at the South San Francisco office.
  • Ability to be badged for process safety management governed facilities, which require pre-hire substance abuse screening and random substance abuse screening thereafter.
  • Must be able to participate in field job walks and site visits which may include climbing enclosed ladders and stairs and working on enclosed platforms.

Nice-to-haves
