About the position

Worley is a global professional services company specializing in energy, chemicals, and resources, headquartered in Australia. We are currently seeking a Senior Instrument Engineer to join our team in Billings, Montana. This role is pivotal as we bridge the gap between traditional energy sources and sustainable alternatives, helping our customers meet the energy, chemicals, and resources needs of society today. The Senior Instrument Engineer will work independently at an advanced level, applying engineering theories, techniques, and practices to complete a variety of assignments. This position requires substantial knowledge of relevant regulations, codes, manufacturing standards, and industry practices related to instrumentation engineering. In this role, you will deliver instrumentation engineering services that meet Worley’s, our customers’, and applicable statutory and regulatory specifications, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget. You will initiate, manage, and deliver project requirements, participate in meetings, prepare progress reports, and ensure compliance with project change management processes. Your responsibilities will include developing project deliverables such as piping and instrument diagrams (P&IDs), instrument lists, specification forms, and installation details. You will also provide assistance during procurement, construction, and commissioning activities, coordinating with clients and ensuring project documentation is accurate and up to date. The Senior Instrument Engineer will be expected to keep abreast of the latest developments in instrumentation engineering and proactively resolve discrepancies between Worley and customer requirements. Effective communication with the engineering team and project stakeholders is essential, as is the ability to identify issues and develop appropriate solutions. Responsibilities

  • Deliver instrumentation engineering services that meet Worley's, our customer's, and applicable statutory and regulatory specifications on time and within budget.
  • Initiate, manage, and deliver instrumentation engineering project requirements.
  • Participate in relevant meetings, prepare progress reports and follow required checking procedures, ensure the project scope is clear and that changes comply with project change management processes.
  • Develop project deliverables to include documents such as piping and instrument diagrams (P&IDs), instrument lists, specification forms, location plans, cable schedules, installation details, loop diagrams, elementary diagrams, and operating instructions.
  • Provide assistance and advice during procurement, construction, and commissioning activities, including writing requisitions and conducting technical bid evaluations.
  • Coordinate CAD designer time and scope for project document creation and modification.
  • Coordinate with clients and design projects per their preferences.
  • Assist with project budgeting and schedule requirements.
  • Proactively resolve any discrepancies between Worley and its customer's requirements.
  • Keep up to date with the latest developments and technical innovations in instrumentation engineering.
  • Assist and support other personnel within the instrument engineering team if required.
  • Communicate effectively with the instrument engineering team and project stakeholders, including the customer.
  • Identify issues and problems, develop appropriate solutions, and ask for assistance when required.

Requirements

  • Highly effective technical and practical engineering skills with the ability to consistently deliver quality, accurate, and timely work.
  • Sound knowledge of the fundamental requirements of instrument engineering and basic requirements of other engineering fields.
  • Knowledge of applicable local and international standards and statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Relevant use of instrument engineering specific software.
  • Competent use of relevant software such as MS Office Suite.
  • Practical technical experience in instrument engineering in the same or similar industry, including experience in working in multi-disciplinary projects and teams.
  • Strong background in discipline work and a competent understanding of regulations, codes, manufacturing standards, and industry standard practices.
  • Skilled in estimating project costs and writing proposal content.
  • An ABET recognized Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or General Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering License is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Smart Plant Instrumentation is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of process flow diagrams is a plus.
