About the position

The Senior Investment Director - Private Investment Specialist at Cambridge Associates is a pivotal role within the Global Investment Services team, focusing on managing and allocating approximately $1.5 billion annually to private investments for a diverse range of clients. This position requires a close partnership with the Boston Investment Group, which serves as a dedicated investment office for 15 family offices across North America and Latin America. The team is known for its exceptional performance, consistently delivering top decile returns while maintaining a high-touch, white glove service for its clients. The role is designed for an experienced professional who can navigate the complexities of private investments, including venture capital, growth equity, private equity, secondaries, private credit, and real assets. The Senior Investment Director will be responsible for ensuring a coordinated private investment process and effective portfolio monitoring across clients. This includes managing forward calendars, preparing client materials and recommendations, and responding to ad-hoc client requests. The individual will also conduct thorough research on private investment asset classes and products, performing due diligence on managers and leading private investment research projects. Portfolio construction is another critical aspect of the role, where the director will develop, implement, and review clients' private investment portfolios, advising them on new commitments and addressing inquiries. Collaboration is key in this role, as the Senior Investment Director will participate in team meetings, sharing knowledge and acting as a thought partner to enhance the team's collective expertise. The position demands a strong understanding of private investments, market trends, and the ability to deliver high-quality, timely results while managing multiple priorities. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of analytical skills, communication prowess, and organizational capabilities, making them a valuable asset to the Cambridge Associates team.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure a coordinated private investment process and effective portfolio monitoring across clients, with support from the team's Investment Analysts.
  • Research private investment asset classes, products, and investment managers, performing due diligence and leading private investment research projects.
  • Develop, implement, and review clients' private investment portfolios/programs, advising on new commitments and responding to client inquiries.
  • Participate in team meetings, sharing knowledge and acting as a thought partner to the team.

Requirements

  • Eight to ten years of applicable investment experience, preferably at a family office, large institutional investor, fund-of-funds, or private equity investment firm.
  • Strong understanding of private investments, trends, and markets, including key characteristics of each asset class and their role in client portfolios.
  • Familiarity with private investment portfolio strategy and construction.
  • Established manager knowledge and relationships.
  • Demonstrated qualitative and quantitative analytical skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to deliver on time with high accuracy and quality.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize competing deliverables based on need and timing.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to review, edit, and ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Ability to work effectively with autonomy and collaborate with an integrated team.
  • CFA and/or MBA preferred.
