About The Position

Eliassen Group is seeking a Senior Java Developer to support a critical public health platform for a US Government client. This remote position involves enhancing the CDC WONDER web application by implementing improvements, managing complex database queries, and supporting data modernization efforts. The role requires strong communication skills and the ability to work independently on technical tasks.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of related professional experience involving data-oriented analytic web applications.
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • Proven ability to engage with client team members and self-motivated to complete assigned tasks independently.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to support public health professionals, statisticians, and data scientists.
  • 5+ years of professional experience developing and supporting web applications in Java, HTML, CSS, XML, and XSLT.
  • 5+ years of professional experience working with SQL based relational databases, preferably Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Experience supporting SQL Server ETL processes.
  • Experience with Apache Tomcat servlet engine.
  • Experience developing and supporting RESTful APIs that return XML and JSON.
  • Experience using source code repositories such as Tortoise, CVS, or others.

Nice To Haves

  • History of supporting epidemiologists, statisticians, or other public health analytics.
  • Knowledge of Azure cloud services, containerization such as Docker, and Palantir Foundry.

Responsibilities

  • Implement improvements to the CDC WONDER web application, including modifying complex HTML forms and Java server-side coding.
  • Communicate actively with team members regarding assigned tasks.
  • Take ownership of tasks and develop actionable plans to complete them in a timely manner.
  • Identify and refine acceptance criteria, and perform unit tests, integration testing, and regression testing.
  • Document procedures, code, workflows, and activities as required.
  • Attend and participate in various meetings to support CDC WONDER.
  • Assist in Data Modernization efforts, including containerization and implementation of Azure Data Factory.
  • Submit monthly status reports on activities and deliverables.
