About the position

As a Senior Life Underwriter at Farm Bureau Financial Services, you will play a crucial role in the total case management of all applications assigned to you. This position requires a thorough review of applications, examinations, laboratory and other test results, as well as medical and financial records. You will be responsible for ensuring that all documents comply with state and federal regulations and determining the suitability of applicants based on the information provided. Familiarity with Accelerated Underwriting and the ability to interpret underwriting data is highly desirable. In this role, you will work independently, supported by assistants, but you may also consult with other underwriters, the Medical Director, reinsurance companies, and experts in various disciplines such as accounting and legal. Adherence to department policies and procedures, as well as compliance with government regulations, is essential. Additionally, you may be tasked with training our agency force during seminars and agency or statewide meetings, sharing your expertise and knowledge with others in the field. To succeed in this position, you should possess a college degree or equivalent experience, along with a minimum of 5 years of life insurance experience. Preferred qualifications include FLMI, FALU, and CLU designations, or a commitment to working towards these credentials. Staying current with changes in the industry and risk selection is vital. Proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office software is preferred, and excellent oral and written communication skills are necessary. This position requires life underwriting experience and/or a medical background, and you must be able to work from our office located in West Des Moines, IA, with a hybrid home/office work schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Manage total case management of all assigned applications.

Requirements

  • College degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of life insurance experience preferred.
  • FLMI, FALU, and CLU designations preferred or currently working towards them.
  • Keep current with changes in the industry and risk selection.
  • Familiarity with Windows and Microsoft Office software preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Life underwriting experience and/or a medical background required.
