About the position

The Senior Linux System Administrator is responsible for maintaining the workflows of an organization's computer systems, ensuring their upkeep, configuration, and reliable operation. This role involves addressing network issues, updating equipment and software, and providing in-depth analysis and technical support for systems. The administrator will engage in complex problem resolution, design, development, testing, operational integration, and user support. The position requires on-site work due to the classified nature of the tasks involved. In this role, the Senior Linux System Administrator will provide operating systems planning and evaluation, focusing on performance analysis, capacity planning, and hardware upgrades. The position demands specialized expertise in multiple IT systems, including Windows Server 2016/2019, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and VMWare technologies. Responsibilities include installation, administration, troubleshooting, and support of server operating systems and services, as well as storage and Data Center solutions. The administrator will oversee the implementation of system specifications, ensuring integration, testing, and documentation are completed effectively. The role requires strong technical skills across various systems and storage technologies, including but not limited to Windows Server, Microsoft SQL Server, Active Directory, and VMware ESXi. The administrator will also be responsible for maintaining core systems such as Domain Controllers, Linux servers, and DNS, while also managing supplemental systems and software like SQL, DHCP, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux. A hands-on approach is essential, as the administrator will need to work directly with systems and technology to ensure optimal performance and security.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the workflows of an organization's computer systems, ensuring their upkeep, configuration, and reliable operation.
  • Address network issues and update equipment and software as necessary.
  • Perform in-depth analysis and technical support of systems, including complex problem resolution and user support.
  • Provide operating systems planning and evaluation for performance analysis, capacity planning, and hardware upgrades.
  • Oversee the implementation of system specifications, including integration, testing, and documentation.
  • Install, administer, troubleshoot, and support server operating systems and services, storage, and Data Center solutions.
  • Exhibit strong technical skills related to numerous systems and storage technologies, including Windows Server and VMware.
  • Manage core systems such as Domain Controllers, Linux servers, and DNS, and supplemental systems like SQL and DHCP.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of related experience in Linux or Windows environments.
  • Must possess a Top Secret-SCI security clearance.
  • System administration and IT certification in Linux, Microsoft, or other network-related fields required.
  • Working knowledge of administration and maintenance of Bare Metal hypervisors (VMWare, XenServer, Hyper-V, etc.).
  • Experience with troubleshooting and issue resolution principles, methodologies, and techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of Oracle and SQL database management.
  • Advanced knowledge of virtualization, VMware or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of implementing and developing helpdesk and IT operations best practices.

Nice-to-haves

  • ITIL v3 Certification preferred.
  • DoDI 8570.01m Certification required.
