About the position

The Senior Manager, IT Governance, Risk and Compliance at Sallie Mae plays a crucial role in supporting the strategic vision for Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) within the Technology organization. This position focuses on identifying and implementing strategies to manage and remediate risks, optimize operational efficiency, and drive continuous improvement in processes related to risk management and compliance activities.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Head of the Technology GRC Office in managing and enhancing risk management activities.
  • Direct IT GRC strategy development and execution, ensuring alignment with key priorities and outcomes.
  • Enhance and support an effective end-to-end Issue Management program, including root cause analysis and timely remediation.
  • Conduct in-depth process analysis, including process mapping and risk identification.
  • Support internal and external audits and departmental Risk and Control Self Assessments.
  • Manage collaboration with stakeholders to promote process awareness and risk remediation.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of implemented process improvements and identify further optimization opportunities.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive reports on GRC key metrics and outcomes.

Requirements

  • Experience in developing control frameworks and risk management frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge of process improvement methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, or Agile.
  • Solid leadership and team management skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in guiding deliverables and taking initiative on projects.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with a data-driven approach.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, risk management, or a related field.
  • 6+ years' experience in risk management, audit, or process management in a regulated environment.
