About the position

As a Manufacturing Engineer at DEKA, you will play a crucial role in evaluating and understanding the design intent, manufacturability, and GD&T of components and assemblies for transition into mass production. Your responsibilities will include reviewing design documents and specifications, conducting detailed assessments and critical DFM reviews of engineering designs, and providing analysis and recommendations for feature and manufacturing cost tradeoffs during the design phase. You will identify relevant manufacturing technologies for new design concepts and advise the design team on effective execution methods. Additionally, you will work closely with the sourcing team to develop comprehensive, cost-effective manufacturing strategies, including supplier selection, to achieve cost targets. Your role will also involve managing the manufacturing of prototypes for new product development and conceiving, designing, and implementing fixtures and jigs for both prototype and production lines.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and understand design intent, manufacturability, and GD&T of components and assemblies for mass production.
  • Review design documents and specifications, working with the design team to finalize them.
  • Conduct detailed assessments and critical DFM reviews of engineering designs, drawings, and specifications.
  • Provide analysis and recommendations for feature and manufacturing cost tradeoffs during the design phase.
  • Identify relevant manufacturing technologies for new design concepts and advise the design team.
  • Identify improvements and drive actions back to design or advance processes with the sourcing team.
  • Evaluate and finalize inspection and test requirements.
  • Develop strategies with the sourcing team for designs and provide estimates or review quotes for costs and tooling.
  • Develop comprehensive, cost-effective manufacturing strategies, including supplier selection.
  • Collaborate with design team and suppliers on DFMEA and PFMEA.
  • Develop manufacturing cost models to inform design teams.
  • Work with CM to drive quality and cost.
  • Evaluate and finalize a scaled launch approach for design concepts.
  • Manage the maturity and progression of designs through to full execution, including ROI justifications.
  • Manage the manufacturing of prototypes for new product development.
  • Conceive, design, and implement fixtures and jigs for prototype and production lines.

Requirements

  • BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar with a manufacturing focus.
  • 5+ years in a manufacturing engineering role, including NPI or CM experience.
  • Experience manufacturing electro-mechanical products at scale, including machined, cast, forged, PCBA, cables, and plastic components.
  • Experience taking a product from launch to scale.
  • Design skills including GD&T, design validation, and inspection.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Pro-E/Creo and/or Solidworks.
  • Experience in should-cost analysis and models to evaluate Cost of Goods.
  • Experience with Six Sigma tools and Lean Manufacturing concepts.
