About the position

As a Senior Marketing and Communications Manager at Mortenson, you will play a pivotal role in driving the growth of our business in the Milwaukee and Greater Wisconsin market. This position requires a seasoned marketing leader with strong executive communication skills, a passion for writing and storytelling, and the ability to manage a team effectively. You will collaborate closely with group leadership, construction teams, business development teams, and centralized marketing resources to create compelling proposals and impactful marketing content that not only helps us win work but also promotes our brand. Your work will be essential in ensuring that our marketing efforts resonate with our target audience and reflect the values and voice of Mortenson. In this role, you will be responsible for establishing content calendars, setting goals and deadlines, and ensuring that your team meets established objectives. You will oversee the entire proposal and content creation processes, ensuring high-quality deliverables are produced on time. Your leadership will guide the team in refining strategies to follow best practices throughout the proposal process, from pre-proposal stages to final presentations. You will also be accountable for developing the marketing strategy and implementation plan, managing team performance, and optimizing the marketing budget across various mediums. Additionally, you will generate insights for thought leadership and brand-building strategies, ensuring that all content reflects the customer's language and resonates with the target audience. Your role will also involve collaborating with customer marketing teams on project-level marketing and serving as a resource for marketing materials to build excitement around high-profile projects. This position reports to the Vice President of Project Development and requires a proactive approach to managing competing priorities and deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with work acquisition leaders to establish content calendars, set goals and deadlines, and ensure team meets established goals.
  • Produce a variety of stories, posts, emails, and presentations that attract and retain customers.
  • Create, develop, and produce differentiated communication tools, such as infographics and customer presentations.
  • Oversee the entire proposal and content creation processes, ensuring high-quality deliverables are produced on time.
  • Facilitate meetings with marketing coordinators, business development, and operations leaders to develop proposals.
  • Act as the principal editor on all proposals and implement a structured review process.
  • Guide the team in refining a strategy to follow best practices for the proposal process and content.
  • Apply targeted marketing and sales principles to deliver creative solutions that meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Develop the marketing strategy and implementation plan, collaborating with business development and group leadership.
  • Manage the career development for two team members and lead by example.
  • Optimize marketing budget across mediums and leverage internal and external resources to achieve business objectives.
  • Generate insights for thought leadership and brand-building strategies.
  • Deliver content that drives action across various mediums and formats.
  • Oversee any outside resources necessary for public relations and communications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications Studies, Technical & Scientific Communications, Journalism, Marketing or a related field.
  • Minimum of seven years of experience in business development, marketing, B2B writing, content marketing or sales enablement.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in writing content for business-to-business audiences.
  • Experience managing team performance and ensuring professional growth.
  • Strong ability to create PowerPoint messages and visuals with sharp visual organization of information.
  • Agility to lead a fast-paced team and manage multiple assignments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a professional services industry (versus product companies).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite with a good understanding of graphic layout and visual hierarchy.
  • Experience in Salesforce.com, OneNote.
  • Experience with best practices in writing for digital mediums.
