About the position

The Senior Materials Engineer (Carbon Composites) will be responsible for the development and optimization of advanced composite materials specifically for aerospace applications. This role requires a high level of expertise in materials engineering, particularly in carbon composites, to ensure performance and reliability in challenging environments.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain documentation for processes and quality, assisting in performance evaluation and offering expertise to engineers, clients, and organizational leaders.
  • Design and implement analytical and experimental studies to facilitate the development, refinement, and enhancement of advanced carbon composite materials and processes.
  • Manage and maintain current research and development processing equipment, including creating proposals for improvements and optimizations.
  • Compile technical reports to document and share insights gained with the broader team.
  • Promote a culture of ongoing improvement and advocate for safe work practices consistently.
  • Other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in materials engineering with a focus on carbon composites.
  • Strong knowledge of composite materials, processing techniques, and material characterization methods.
  • Experience in aerospace applications and materials selection for flight systems.
  • Familiarity with C/C, ceramics, and CMC materials is a plus.
  • Familiarity with material characterization and analysis techniques and equipment, such as SEM, microscopy, and spectral analysis is a plus.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.
  • Proficient in technical report writing and proposal development.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with C/C, ceramics, and CMC materials.
  • Familiarity with material characterization and analysis techniques and equipment, such as SEM, microscopy, and spectral analysis.
