About the position

The Buildings & Places Business Group provides building-focused architectural and engineering services to a variety of commercial, industrial, and institutional clients. We provide analysis, evaluation, plans, and design for facility projects that involve rehabilitation, expansion and new construction. We provide full A/E services to clients in the Transportation, Federal, Civic, Power, Water, and Industrial markets. We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer in our Philadelphia, PA, Valley Forge, PA, or Marlton, NJ offices. Candidate will be responsible for business operations; managing junior staff; designing heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems, plumbing systems; fluid distribution systems, fire protection systems, and site utilities. Relevant experience may include proposal authorship; subject matter expert testimony; conference presentations, code committee participation, systems design and applications; economic evaluations; life-cycle cost analyses; energy conservation; equipment selection; specifications; construction estimating; bidding phase services; construction administration; as well as start-up, trouble shooting, and commissioning of mechanical systems. Projects involve public works, mass transit, commercial, educational, pharmaceutical, and federal facilities. Experience with supervising employees, alternative delivery projects, and co-generation or compressed natural gas facility design as well as commissioning and sustainability certifications are a plus. Relocation assistance will be available.

Responsibilities

  • Client account management
  • Project management of budgets and multidiscipline project teams
  • Managing junior staff
  • On-Site survey and studies of building mechanical equipment and systems
  • Design of HVAC systems, building automation systems, plumbing systems, fluid distribution systems, and fire suppression systems
  • Technical direction of mechanical designers and technicians on specific projects
  • Quality review of peers' work product
  • Project specification writing
  • Proactive problem identification and resolution
  • Coordination and verification of project deliverables
  • Participate in business development meetings with prospective clients including presentations, proposal preparation and delivery, as well as general client interaction

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with a mechanical focus
  • Licensed Mechanical Professional Engineer
  • 15-20 years' experience in mechanical engineering consulting or internal to a building engineer's office - including experience with code officials and public agencies
  • A comprehensive understanding of mechanical building codes and construction standards
  • Strong understanding of DDC controls and controls design and operation
  • Knowledge of Revit and Building Energy Modeling Software
  • Excellent writing, oral communication, and presentation skills are required
  • Effective interpersonal communications skills, a team-oriented disposition and work style, where cooperative work sharing and peer to peer mentoring is a daily habit
  • Proficient in the use of Office 365 applications
  • Effective sales, marketing and presentation skills
