About the position

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for designing and optimizing next-generation products, leading design projects, and mentoring less experienced engineers. This role involves extensive collaboration with stakeholders and customers to define product requirements, ensuring optimal designs and successful product launches into production.

Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize next generation products through concept generation, analysis, CAD, prototyping, DFM, DFA, and user studies.
  • Lead design projects by mentoring and guiding less experienced engineers.
  • Maintain good documentation practices, including comprehensive design journals and test reports.
  • Formulate early concepts and gather feedback from stakeholders and customers to define product requirements.
  • Develop test plans, testing fixtures, and test flows to ensure comprehensive testing and standardization of procedures.
  • Direct suppliers and vendors to prepare designs for production, providing detailed specifications and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with the Operations team to successfully launch products into production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 8+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Experience leading projects and guiding small teams of engineers and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Extensive knowledge of volume production of sheet metal, injection molded plastics, casting, fatigue failure analysis, and vibration testing.
  • Strong competency in systems thinking and understanding driving variables within a system.
  • Mechanical design and analysis of dynamic electro-mechanical systems.
  • Hands-on mechanical aptitude for assembly, modification, and tinkering.
  • Experience with electromechanical workings, sensor integration, motor control, data logging, and test automation.
  • Proficiency in LabVIEW, MATLAB, Excel, C++ (or similar programming language).
  • Experience with simulation tools within CAD programs (SolidWorks is a plus).
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks or similar).
  • Ability to work collaboratively and mentor teammates.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with test fixture design, fabrication, and hands-on assembly.
  • Knowledge of reliability science concepts and applications.
  • Experience with accelerated test methods such as vibration and thermal testing.
  • Familiarity with Weibull statistical analysis.
  • Experience in mechatronics, microcontrollers, motorized systems, and robotics.
  • Knowledge of data science and manipulating large datasets.
  • Experience with fabrication techniques such as machining, welding, bolted assemblies, 3D printing, and laser cutting.
  • Familiarity with pneumatic systems.
