About the position

The Senior Mechanical Engineer at Burns & McDonnell will lead mechanical design project teams within the Oil, Gas & Chemical global practice. This role involves overseeing the design and construction processes for various projects, ensuring adherence to budget constraints and client needs. The engineer will be responsible for creating world-class designs, managing project schedules, and maintaining quality standards throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design of projects from conceptual phase through design completion.
  • Prepare mechanical equipment specifications, RFQs, technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.
  • Review mechanical equipment vendor drawings and interface with suppliers and clients.
  • Participate in project schedule, scope, budget staffing planning, and construction planning.
  • Manage change orders effectively throughout the project.
  • Apply expert knowledge of mechanical concepts, practices, codes, and procedures.
  • Conduct quality reviews of production drawings and project-related data.
  • Oversee construction administration and resolve design-related installation issues.
  • Lead field inspections and measurements for clients.
  • Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.
  • Build effective relationships with clients and develop new business opportunities.
  • Participate in sales and marketing efforts and identify key pursuits.
  • Lead development of cost proposals and qualification statements.
  • Prepare and present project budgets and cost estimates.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to less experienced engineers.
  • Ensure compliance with QA/QC processes and safety policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program and 7 years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably in EPC projects.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, along with 7 years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably in EPC projects.
  • Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and 6 years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably in EPC projects.
  • Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures, and strong knowledge of mechanical equipment design codes (ASME, ANSI, API, PIP, NACE).
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience leading discipline design for large projects and delegating tasks to team members.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills and ability to work analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.
