About the position

As the Senior Mechanical Engineer at Coldspring, you will play a pivotal role in supporting various engineering projects assigned by your supervisor, Jordan Massmann. This full-time, salaried position is based in Cold Spring, MN, and requires a comprehensive understanding of mechanical engineering principles as they apply to the manufacturing environment. Your primary responsibilities will include designing, testing, and implementing equipment and infrastructure improvements that adhere to scientific engineering standards. You will be expected to engage in a variety of tasks that encompass the entire project lifecycle, from initial concept through to execution and evaluation. In this role, you will be responsible for understanding internal maintenance functions and capabilities, which will inform your designs and specifications for building construction, systems modifications, and repairs. Collaboration is key; you will work closely with internal support departments and external resources to develop project scopes, estimates, budgets, schedules, and installation plans. Your ability to review and develop plant and equipment layouts will be crucial in ensuring that projects are feasible and align with operational goals. You will also be tasked with estimating quantities and costs of materials, equipment, and labor, which will help determine the feasibility of projects. Identifying and coordinating resolutions for various operational challenges, including those related to Manufacturing, Maintenance, Quality, Safety, and Environmental concerns, will be part of your responsibilities. Applying mathematical and scientific principles to design, evaluate, and repair equipment, buildings, products, processes, and infrastructure will be essential to your success in this position. Additionally, you will be expected to provide interim supervisory leadership and consultation as needed, mentoring engineering staff and guiding them in project management and leadership strategies. Your expertise in mechanical system solutions, along with your ability to support designs with thorough analysis and calculations, will be vital in driving the success of engineering initiatives at Coldspring.

Responsibilities

  • Understanding internal maintenance functions and capabilities
  • Designing and producing plans and specifications for building construction, systems, modifications, and repairs
  • Working with all internal support departments and outside resources in developing and facilitating scope, estimates, budgets, schedules, drawings, timeline(s), and installation plans related to assigned projects
  • Reviewing and developing plant and equipment layouts
  • Estimating quantities and costs of materials, equipment, and labor to determine project feasibility
  • Identifying, evaluating, developing, and coordinating resolutions for Manufacturing, Maintenance, Quality, Safety, Environmental and Administration
  • Applying mathematical and scientific principles to design, evaluate, and repair equipment, buildings, products, processes, and infrastructure
  • Designing & developing mechanical system solutions based on engineering principles
  • Supporting designs with analysis and calculations as required
  • Providing interim supervisory leadership and consultation as needed
  • Mentoring and providing project management and leadership strategies to engineering staff

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 10+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to work as a collaborative team member to ensure deadlines are met and completed within budget
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • An understanding of Manufacturing Operations
  • Mechanical knowledge and background
  • Ability to lead and direct people that are not direct reports
  • Familiarity with general construction, print reading, and scheduling
  • Excellent design skills with the ability to reverse engineer facilities, processes, infrastructure, and equipment
  • Understanding and implementation of lean manufacturing
  • Ability to operate precision measuring tools
  • Above-average drafting and 3D modeling skills
