About the position

The Senior Portfolio Manager at Tompkins Financial Advisors is responsible for assisting the Chief Investment Officer in developing and implementing investment strategies, managing client investment portfolios, and serving as an investment expert. This role involves leading research efforts, managing investment strategies, and ensuring client satisfaction through effective communication and portfolio management.

Responsibilities

  • Manage investment strategies, including Core Equity and Dividend Income stock portfolios, and TFA, SAP, and ESG strategies.
  • Lead research efforts by sourcing and monitoring investments through qualitative and quantitative research processes.
  • Analyze business models through financial statements, conference call transcripts, and research reports.
  • Perform oversight of third-party managers in mutual funds and ETFs, including manager selection and sourcing new ideas.
  • Stay updated on global economies and markets, monitoring portfolio holdings.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on asset classes, including global equities and fixed income investments.
  • Encourage diverse and independent thinking among investment committee members.
  • Lead business development activities related to investments, including constructing investment proposals for prospective clients.
  • Make presentations promoting TFA to clients, stakeholders, and COIs.
  • Publish white papers for internal and external distribution.
  • Assist in leading investment committee discussions and serve as backup for the CIO.
  • Communicate effectively, both written and verbal, with clients and team members.
  • Manage the investment portfolio management process and participate in formulating investment policy as a member of the Investment Committee.
  • Make trade recommendations and assist in preparing investment proposals and presentations.
  • Review, evaluate, and monitor accounts for adherence to guidelines and target allocations.
  • Provide supervision and training to portfolio managers, wealth advisors, and trust officers.
  • Develop and execute a business development plan in collaboration with Wealth Advisors and Trust Officers.
  • Implement investment plans, including trade coordination and ongoing rebalancing.
  • Serve as the primary contact for investment-related questions and maintain client relationships.
  • Create and maintain investment marketing materials and distribute investment talking points.
  • Participate as an active member of the TFA Investment Committee, conducting due diligence and reviewing investments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, Business Management, or related field, or an Associate's Degree plus two years of work experience.
  • Minimum of ten years' investment management experience, including client relationship management and portfolio development.
  • Proven ability to uncover client investment goals and create personalized plans.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with acute attention to detail.
  • Expert knowledge of investments and trading is required.
  • Customer-focused with a desire to communicate frequently with clients and prospects.
  • Solid supervisory skills and ability to make independent decisions.

Nice-to-haves
