About the position

Collins Aerospace, an RTX company, is a leader in technologically advanced and intelligent solutions for the global aerospace and defense industry. The Open Communications Systems (OCS) organization within Collins Aerospace is designing communications systems for Next Generation technologies across a wide variety of platforms. We are looking for an exceptionally skilled RF engineering expert to serve as the RF Product Owner for a state-of-the-art RF communications system. This role demands deep technical mastery in RF design, analysis, and system integration while maintaining essential product oversight.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and optimization of complex RF communication systems
  • Develop and refine RF architectures, including antenna design, signal processing, and system-level integration
  • Conduct detailed RF simulations and analyses using industry-standard tools (e.g. HFSS, CST, ADS)
  • Serve as the primary technical authority on RF systems requirements and specifications
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to translate RF engineering challenges into actionable development plans
  • Oversee RF testing, validation, and troubleshooting to ensure performance and reliability to the system requirements
  • Design and develop applicable trade studies with emerging RF technologies to enhance system capabilities
  • Lead initiatives to address complex RF challenges
  • Work closely with hardware, software, systems, and firmware teams to ensure system integration and compliance
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship of various RF topics and support broad product objectives

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience
  • Eight (8) years of experience in one or more of the following technical domains: Systems engineering, architecture, and/or design; System performance and analysis; Algorithms and signal processing; Electronics (circuit card assemblies, subassemblies, complete systems) requirements, integration, and verification; RF Sensor sub-systems requirements, integration, and verification; Configurable Logic / Firmware / VHDL architecture, design, development, integration, and verification
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued Top Secret security clearance is required
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Nice-to-haves

  • Active/current security clearance
  • MS or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, Math or Physics
  • Experience using Agile framework development methods/processes
  • Experience using Azure DevOps methods/tools
  • Experience with Matlab, C, C#, C++, Python
  • Past work experience in a challenging fast-paced environment
  • Ability to perform trade studies to optimize system performance
  • Familiarity with military systems; tactics, techniques, and procedures
  • Familiarity with DoD customer infrastructure
  • Understanding of Systems Engineering Product Development Cycle
  • Familiarity with system safety, reliability, or mission planning
  • Experience evaluating and mitigating technical risks
  • Prior work experience giving technical briefs or presentations
  • Strong communication skills
