About the position

The Senior Principal Instrumentation Engineer is responsible for planning and executing project management assignments globally, ensuring compliance with contracts while maintaining safety, quality, and profitability. This role involves managing project activities, providing technical direction in Control System Design, and developing detailed design documents. The position is designed to enhance project management knowledge and may involve full accountability for medium-sized projects or segments of larger projects.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic project engineering functions involving monitoring of progress, preparation of procedures, documentation of communications and meetings, and identification/evaluation of project issues and problems.
  • Provide technical direction, guidance and demonstrated expertise in the development and implementation of the Control System Design.
  • Provide progress reports and updates on Control System Team progress.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines to develop design.
  • Develop detail hardware and infrastructure design documents and drawings including control cabinets, I/O drawings, wiring design, installation drawings, network drawings, and cable schedules required for the PCS Control System design.
  • Develop I/O list from P&IDs and other input documents.
  • Develop Logic Diagrams.
  • Check Control Systems detail designs developed by others including Control System supplier.
  • Develop Control System requisition for contract support by PCS vendor during detail design.
  • Apply working knowledge of NEC, ISA, and IEEE to site facilities.

Requirements

  • Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in engineering field of study and six (6) years of work-related experience; a recognized professional certification or registration in the applicable field, if required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors.
  • Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job.
  • Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines.
  • Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner.

Nice-to-haves

  • Six (6) years of experience in engineering, procurement, fabrication, and construction/construction management (EPFC/CM) industry including the performance of functional tasks on projects with a well developed understanding of procedures and interfaces.
  • Experience with Emerson Delta V preferred.
  • PCS Hardware and infrastructure experience including Network design.
  • Degree in Engineering (BS). PE License a plus.
  • Experience with NEC, ISA, and IEEE codes and standards.
  • Ability to communicate technical topics clearly and effectively with internal and external customers.
