About the position

Atlassian is seeking a Senior Product Designer to join the Loom team, which is on a mission to empower effective communication in the workplace. This role is pivotal as it will lead the development of Loom's Lens Design System, a key component in ensuring that the design language is consistent, scalable, and innovative across all products. As the first design systems role being hired, this position offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of product design at Loom, especially following its acquisition by Atlassian in 2023. The Senior Product Designer will report to the Design Manager for Loom Core experiences and will work closely with front-end UI engineering teams to build and maintain the design system. This position is fully remote, but candidates must be located in the Pacific Time Zone to facilitate collaboration with the team. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering style guides, patterns, prototypes, and components that articulate the vision of Loom's Lens Design System. You will assess and refine the design system based on user feedback and evolving needs, ensuring it remains a living resource that enhances efficiency across the design process. Collaboration is key, as you will work with product managers, engineers, and other designers to integrate the design system across all product experiences. Additionally, you will mentor team members, promoting a culture of collaboration and shared ownership of the design system. Advocating for high-quality design and consistency in user experience across all platforms will be a critical aspect of your responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain Loom's Lens Design System in collaboration with front-end UI engineering teams.
  • Deliver style guides, patterns, styles, prototypes, and components that articulate Loom's Lens Design System's vision.
  • Assess and refine the design system based on feedback and evolving user needs, ensuring it remains a living resource.
  • Work with product managers, engineers, and other designers to ensure our design system is integrated across all product experiences.
  • Mentor and level up craft across our teams in adopting and contributing to our design system, promoting a culture of collaboration and shared ownership.
  • Advocate for high-quality design and consistency in user experience across all platforms.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7+ years in UX design, with hands-on experience in creating design system frameworks and style guides.
  • Experience with building and scaling design systems within large, complex organizations.
  • A solid engineering acumen is necessary for successful collaboration with the engineering team.
  • Strong understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with experience working alongside front-end and back-end teams.
  • Ability to apply UX/UI principles to create delightful and usable solutions, with excellent visual and interaction design skills.
  • Research and formulate an opinion on industry trends in design systems and accessibility.
  • Ability to articulate design rationale and goals to multiple stakeholders, and provide and receive constructive feedback in design reviews.
  • Able to think expansively about variations and constraints, including mobile, accessibility, and dark mode considerations.
