About the position

AbbVie's Biotherapeutics and Genetic Medicine Protein Science Group is seeking a dedicated and experienced scientist to join the Biomolecular Interaction Team. This role focuses on providing in-depth analytical and functional characterization of biopharmaceutical products, including monoclonal antibodies and antibody-like biologics. The position offers a unique opportunity to contribute significantly to various Discovery Research Therapeutic Areas and Projects in a collaborative and innovative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Independently develop and execute SPR assays to generate selection criteria for antibodies and biologics.
  • Evaluate and integrate protein-protein interaction technologies to support therapeutic candidate selection.
  • Implement high-throughput epitope binning for monoclonal antibodies.
  • Perform antibody Fc characterization studies to support regulatory submissions.
  • Identify and resolve technical challenges independently and implement innovative research approaches.
  • Exhibit scientific initiative and creativity in biologics characterization and screening.
  • Analyze, document, and report data concisely, formulating conclusions and designing follow-on experiments.
  • Provide direct mentorship and guidance to junior scientists and team members.
  • Provide project updates, analyses, and advice to cross-functional teams and senior management.
  • Present original work internally and at scientific conferences.

Requirements

  • BS, MS, or PhD in biology, chemistry, biochemistry or related field with typically 10+ (BS), 8+ (MS) or 0+ (PhD) years of experience.
  • Experience with analytical/functional characterization of biologics using SPR platforms.
  • Demonstrated theoretical and practical understanding of the scientific discipline.
  • Broad technical knowledge of various analytical, biophysical, and structural methods is a plus.
  • Experience of high throughput biologics screening with biochemical, biophysical, and cell-based methods.
  • Direct experience with biologics, monoclonal antibodies and/or protein therapeutics is a plus.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the capacity to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
  • Goal-oriented team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with SEC, MS, HDX-MS, X-ray crystallography, DSF, DLS methods.
  • Ability to adapt to rapid changes in project priorities and timelines.
