About the position

The Senior Scientist I in Biomolecular Interactions at AbbVie is a pivotal role within the Biotherapeutics and Genetic Medicine Protein Science Group. This position focuses on the analytical and functional characterization of biopharmaceutical products, including monoclonal antibodies and multi-specifics. The scientist will leverage high-throughput biologics screening techniques and collaborate with various therapeutic areas to drive innovative research and development efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Independently develop and execute SPR assays to generate selection criteria for antibodies and biologics.
  • Evaluate and integrate protein-protein interaction technologies to support therapeutic candidate selection.
  • Implement high-throughput epitope binning for monoclonal antibodies and develop knowledge of antibody sequence/function relationships.
  • Perform antibody Fc characterization studies to support regulatory submissions.
  • Identify and resolve technical challenges independently and implement innovative research approaches.
  • Exhibit scientific initiative in biologics characterization and screening to support BGM and TA projects.
  • Analyze, document, and report data concisely, formulating conclusions and designing follow-on experiments.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior scientists and team members.
  • Provide project updates and analyses to cross-functional teams and senior management.
  • Present original work internally and at scientific conferences; may author or co-author scientific papers or patents.

Requirements

  • BS, MS, or PhD in biology, chemistry, biochemistry or related field with typically 10+ (BS), 8+ (MS) or 0+ (PhD) years of experience.
  • Experience with analytical/functional characterization of biologics using SPR platforms.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the scientific discipline with the ability to learn and master innovative technologies.
  • Broad technical knowledge of various analytical, biophysical, and structural methods is a plus.
  • Experience in high throughput biologics screening with biochemical, biophysical, and cell-based methods.
  • Direct experience with biologics, monoclonal antibodies and/or protein therapeutics is a plus.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
  • Goal-oriented team player with excellent communication skills and a strong can-do attitude.

Nice-to-haves

  • Broad technical knowledge of various analytical, biophysical, and structural methods such as SEC, MS, HDX-MS, X-ray crystallography, DSF, DLS.
