About the position

The Senior Software Architect (R&D) for Rail Infrastructure at Siemens is responsible for designing and supporting mission-critical systems that enhance the North American Freight Railroad Market. This role involves collaboration with cross-functional teams, including subject matter experts, architects, developers, and testers, to develop technologies that optimize network performance and support autonomous rail networks. The position requires a strong sense of ownership throughout all project stages, from initial design to final customer review and sign-off.

Responsibilities

  • Help negotiate priorities and resolve conflicts among project stakeholders such as customers, product management, and engineering.
  • Represent requirements information in graphical forms that augment textual representations in natural language, including using established modeling languages.
  • Critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, and decompose high-level information into details.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, marketing, managers, and technical staff.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in Systems Engineering and Software Architecture.
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems, design patterns, architectural styles, and trade-offs.
  • Experience with cloud technologies.
  • Experience in designing and supporting mission-critical systems.
  • Ability to balance and prioritize work based on needs from multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills to engage with individuals and groups about their needs.
  • Listening skills to understand and detect underlying concerns from stakeholders.
  • Observational skills to validate data and identify new areas for elicitation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the Railroad Domain.
  • Experience with CENELEC (EN 50128 / 50129), US IEEE 1483 / 1012, AREMA Section 17, or similar standards.
