About the position

The Senior Software Engineering Architect role focuses on building large-scale distributed systems to enhance search, recommendation, and AI services at Microsoft. The position involves collaborating with data scientists to design and develop cutting-edge techniques, including Large Language Models (LLM) and advanced deep learning methods. The IndexServe team is responsible for creating an agile and efficient index serving platform that allows for rapid implementation and evaluation of relevance techniques, ultimately driving innovation in AI intelligence.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering work on large scale backend service, specifically on the index serving projects.
• Excel and adopt agile service development.
• Design innovative algorithms with best performance, latency, scalability, and efficiency.
• Profile service performance for analysis and service scaling-up.
• Collaborate across multiple teams to design and deliver the solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
• Experience with structured query language, tokenization and text parsing.
• Experience with schema definition and validation tool chain.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience on high performance computing (e.g. cache/memory optimization, fine-grained parallel library and runtime).
• Capable of quantitatively implementing and qualifying a solution in a distributed environment with DevOps model.
• Experience on building Machine Learning/Deep Learning systems.
• Experience on performance analysis and optimization for both CPUs and GPUs, as well as good understanding on software-hardware co-design.
