About the position

The Senior SQL Database Administrator (DBA) at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is responsible for leading the Enterprise Information Services (EIS) DBA technology team in the design, installation, maintenance, and optimization of SQL Server database instances. This role involves collaboration with various teams to ensure the effective management of databases across both on-premises and cloud platforms, while also mentoring team members and overseeing project goals and performance assessments.

Responsibilities

• Lead the EIS DBA technology team in designing, installing, maintaining, and optimizing SQL Server database instances.
• Act as the DBA representative to other EIS teams and departments, coordinating with management to set project goals and requirements.
• Design and implement database backup, recovery, and high availability strategies.
• Perform database recovery, restoration, and quarterly disaster recovery validation.
• Define and implement database parameters, security, audit, and prioritization policies and procedures.
• Manage user accounts, profiles, privileges, roles, and audit information.
• Audit database features and versions to maintain licensing compliance.
• Mentor and develop DBA skills for staff through training sessions.

Requirements

• Six or more years of production database administration experience, preferably in the healthcare sector.
• Hands-on experience with SQL Server Databases (SQL Server 2016 and up).
• Project management experience.
• Skills in monitoring, tuning, and administrating Microsoft SQL Server databases.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with AWS (RDS, EC2, CloudFormation).
• Knowledge of Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and SAP HANA.
• Experience with database management using storage snapshot technologies (NetApp, EMC).
• Proficiency in PowerShell, Shell, Python, or other scripting languages.
