About the position

The Senior Supervisor - Cargo Operations at United Airlines is a leadership role responsible for overseeing daily cargo operations, ensuring high-quality service delivery, and managing team performance. This position focuses on coaching and developing frontline employees and vendors, while also handling operational, administrative, and technical aspects of cargo management. The role emphasizes collaboration with various departments and compliance with company guidelines and union contracts, aiming to enhance customer service and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of Cargo operations including freight and mail handling, data entry, scanning, and Cargo Internal Support operations (CRIS Operations).
  • Develop skills of front-line co-workers and vendors by coaching on performance issues to improve behavior through continuous improvement processes.
  • Oversee and support the performance of business partners, CRIS desk, and ramp teams.
  • Communicate and resolve issues with other departments such as CLP, Sales, Ops, AOA, CS, CSC, hubs/line stations, DG Safety, and business partners.
  • Provide weekly reports to the station leadership.
  • Engage and educate front-line co-workers to deliver excellent customer service and timely quality products through briefings and one-on-one conversations.
  • Provide technical guidance and interpret company guidelines and procedures to assist employees in performing functional tasks.
  • Conduct routine investigations to identify and address issues, providing appropriate corrective actions in accordance with guidelines.
  • Partner with Corporate Real Estate, IT, local airport authorities, and building maintenance to manage Cargo software and facilities.
  • Audit vendor compliance with regulatory policies such as training, Safety (OSHA), Security (TSA), Customs (CBP), and Dangerous Goods (FAA).

Requirements

  • High school diploma.
  • Two (2) years experience in a Supervisor (L6) position, proficient in scheduling, payroll, and performance management systems.
  • Knowledge of Cargo Operations policies and procedures.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, conflict resolution, and decision-making abilities.
  • Proficient in office productivity software (i.e., MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook).
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship.
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree and/or 5+ years of equivalent work experience.
  • Experience supervising a unionized workforce.
  • Principles of project management.
