About the position

The Applied Research Test Technology Division (TTD) in Albuquerque, NM is looking for an Instrumentation Field Engineer to operate data acquisition systems (data bunkers) at Kirtland AFB and White Sands Missile Range. In this role, you will assist the Engineering and Scientific staff in performing the instrumentation of unique test articles and research platforms. This position is responsible for recording and interpreting sensor data, identifying out-of-tolerance and anomalous readings, and documenting findings in detailed reports associated with energetic materials and blast environments. This position will be client-facing and requires a customer-focused attitude while maintaining test objectives and data integrity. You will gain a deep understanding of defense research related to ordinance and energetics. In addition to your technical role, you will assist with program management, planning and budgeting, and status reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Interface with customers/executives and communicate effectively with key stakeholders, managing team members towards meeting project objectives
  • Assist with engineering calculations, design drawings, preliminary cost estimates
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics and computer-generated reports
  • Install, verify, operate, maintain and troubleshoot sensor transducers
  • Install, repair, and maintain general test equipment and calibration standards
  • Diagnose errors or technical issues and identify appropriate solutions
  • Produce detailed and timely service reports
  • Coordinate and maintain official logs for instrument calibration, ensuring that instruments have appropriate calibration certificates to support program test schedules
  • Document processes and procedures
  • Supervise layout, fabrication, assembly and installation of experimental electrical and/or mechanical test hardware
  • Collaborate with the technical team and share information
  • Operate vehicles safely and use field automation systems

Requirements

  • US Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent work or military experience
  • Ability to install, repair, and maintain general test equipment
  • Proficiency applying NIST metrology standards/traceability for calibration standards
  • Critical thinking and collaborative skills
  • Ability to work in outdoor remote test environments
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Electrical/Electronic design experience
  • Ability to read schematic diagrams and support assembly of test setups and field testing

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with CAD software
  • Experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and digital volt meters
  • Familiarity with network analyzers and transient data recorders
  • Experience with General Purpose Interface Bus (GPIB) diagnostic hardware and software
  • Experience with RS232 diagnostic hardware and software
