In this role, you will be responsible for reviewing complex policies to verify their acceptability based on company underwriting guidelines and your granted underwriting authority. You will determine whether to accept, modify, or decline risks, utilizing underwriting tools to ascertain accurate classifications, rates, and premium charges. Additionally, you will review state laws, including cancellation and non-renewal, within your assigned territory to ensure proper business transactions. Consulting with general agents to obtain further information, quote rates, or explain underwriting guidelines will also be part of your responsibilities. You will assist in training departmental personnel and provide technical expertise to the Underwriting department in determining rate and product changes during Product Line Reviews. Your role will involve creating, analyzing, and interpreting data from various reports, and you will be accountable for the performance of your assigned underwriting territory, focusing on growth and profitability. Managing your assigned territory will include overseeing agents and traveling to agent offices. You will be expected to complete all assigned tasks according to department standards and undertake other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or three to five years related insurance experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of two to four years underwriting experience with authority.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Previous insurance educational work, IIA and CPCU desirable.
  • Detail oriented with initiative and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Ability to travel (including pre and post trip preparations).
  • Proficient in the use of computer programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
