The Senior Underwriter, Private Company Management Liability (D&O, EPL, Fiduciary Liability, and Crime) will act within established guidelines and market to analyze, review, evaluate, and monitor new and renewal accounts for our Private Company Management Liability Practice. Senior Underwriters exercise independent judgment in processing accounts and managing underwriting activities. The typical support for Senior Underwriters is $5 Million in Gross Written Premium (GWP). We seek a Senior Underwriter with expertise in Private Company Management Liability (including D&O, EPL, Fiduciary Liability, and Crime) to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a proven history of success in a top-tier Commercial Insurance carrier and will focus on developing a complex Private Company Management Liability book that targets private clients under $3 billion in revenues. Qualified candidates should have strong connections within Management Liability Retail broker channels. They should be experienced in portfolio management, including soliciting submissions, underwriting analysis, preparing and issuing indications/quotations/binders, and marketing. In addition to technical expertise, we are looking for a candidate with an executive presence skilled in communication, influencing, and building solid relationships that add value to our business and contribute to longer-term strategic initiatives. The work profile for this exciting position entails a unique hybrid work environment that offers the flexibility of working from home for two days a week and being present in our bustling San Francisco or Los Angeles office for three days. In addition to the hybrid work environment, this position requires regular travel to meet with brokers and clients face-to-face. As part of this role, you will also attend industry and company events. These events are an excellent opportunity to network with industry leaders, learn about the latest industry trends and innovations, and stay up-to-date with the latest developments in your field.

Responsibilities

  • Retain existing business while strategically prospecting new opportunities, targeting Private Company Management Liability.
  • Manage a book of business regarding new lines, renewals, and cross-marketing of product lines within AXIS, typically more than $5 Million in GWP.
  • Meet established divisional servicing objectives related to quote turnaround, policy issuance, phone management, renewal management, file maintenance, and documentation.
  • Analyze and underwrite individual risks. Develop appropriate limit structure, retention, pricing, and endorsements within underwriting guidelines.
  • Continue to develop and update product and underwriting knowledge.
  • Participate in prospecting by identifying new business targets, opportunities, and work closely with retail brokers to ensure the department receives the opportunity to offer proposals. Make strategy recommendations to the supervisor.
  • Review and evaluate primarily new business based on company underwriting guidelines, competition, and geographic focus. Develop strategy and make recommendations.
  • Perform the required number of broker marketing calls, including out-of-state travel.
  • Solicit new accounts, gather market intelligence, and deliver up-to-date department information on products and services.
  • Manage select agency relationships to ensure objectives are achieved.
  • Maintain up-to-date familiarity with economic and legal factors impacting the department's business lines and the insurance industry.
  • Participate in special projects and department initiatives.
  • Coordinate with branch marketing representatives and profit center representatives to allow for cross-marketing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Five or more years' experience in underwriting Management Liability (D&O, EPL, FL, and Crime)
  • Direct background targeting insureds with revenues under $3 billion
  • Strong presentation and people skills
  • Ability to establish broker relationships within the region
  • In-depth knowledge of management liability products and market trends
  • Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong broker relationships
  • Experience with underwriting systems and risk modeling tools
  • Adaptability to changing market conditions and emerging risks
