About the position

As a Senior Underwriter at Crum & Forster, you will play a crucial role in the Custom Property Philadelphia (CPPHI) division, where you will be responsible for risk selection and rejection, pricing, retention, growth, and profitability of both new business and renewals. Your expertise will be essential in analyzing coverage and limit requests, determining the appropriate terms to offer, and pricing business in accordance with company guidelines. You will utilize your independent judgment and initiative to support business goals while maintaining underwriting discipline and adhering to the bottom line underwriting philosophy. In this position, you will be expected to document files appropriately, ensuring a complete underwriting thought process is evident. You will verify claims information from prior years and assess risk quality and compliance within company guidelines, initiating appropriate loss prevention actions as necessary. Building and maintaining effective business relationships with clients will be key to attracting and retaining profitable business. Additionally, you will be responsible for placing reinsurance according to corporate guidelines, ensuring that all underwriting activities align with the company's strategic objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Has responsibility for risk selection/rejection, pricing, retention, growth, and profitability per objective (New Business & Renewals)
  • Analyzes coverage and limit requests and decides what terms to offer
  • Prices business in accordance with company guidelines
  • Uses independent judgment and initiative to support business goals
  • Maintains underwriting discipline by adhering to bottom line underwriting philosophy

Requirements

  • 5-10 years of Property Underwriting Experience
  • Experience working with wholesale brokers
  • Excellent technical and marketing skills required
  • Knowledge of market and regulatory environment
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and organizational skills required
  • College degree or equivalent is preferred
  • ARM and CPCU designations are a plus
