About the position

As a Senior Environmental Scientist, you will join the Wetlands and Ecological Services Group and work with an experienced team of project managers, scientists, and engineers within our Environment Business Line. This position allows for a hybrid approach to field, office, and home work, with the flexibility to sit in any of our greater Boston or Cape Cod offices. Our Environment team consists of over 100 professionals across our Northeast offices, engaging in a variety of projects that encompass wetland and wildlife science, ecological restoration, regulatory compliance, environmental permitting, site assessment, and remediation. We support our clients, which include state and local governments, utilities, private clients, industry, colleges, and hospitals, through our diverse expertise in environmental science. In this role, you will collaborate with other scientists, engineers, planners, landscape architects, and construction observers to support our clients effectively. You will lead the ecological and permitting components of both coastal and inland projects, which includes resource area delineation, ecological and habitat assessments, permit application preparation and review, mentoring junior staff, and working closely with internal design teams. Your responsibilities will also involve communicating with clients, presenting projects to regulators, and engaging in business development activities. You will be involved in projects from inception through to completion, including the initial proposal phase, field assessments, permitting and regulatory coordination, restoration design, and providing environmental support during construction and post-construction phases.

Responsibilities

  • Lead ecological and permitting components of coastal and inland projects.
  • Conduct resource area delineation and ecological assessments.
  • Prepare and review permit applications.
  • Mentor junior staff and support their professional development.
  • Collaborate with internal design teams and other professionals.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and present projects to regulators.
  • Engage in business development activities and client management.
  • Oversee projects from proposal phase through to post-construction support.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in a natural sciences field, environmental law, planning, or a similar field.
  • Demonstrated ability in wetland delineation and field data collection.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Applied knowledge of Massachusetts and federal wetland regulatory programs.
  • Experience presenting projects to municipal boards.
  • Prior consulting and client management experience.

  • Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) certification.
  • Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioner (CERP) certification.
  • Certified Soil Scientist (CSS) certification.
  • Certified Wildlife Biologist (CWB) certification.
