We are currently seeking a Sheet Metal Programmer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for all sheet metal NC programming, including punch and laser combination, press brakes, and machining centers. This role requires interaction with the Manufacturing Manager, Engineering, and N/C Operators to ensure efficient production processes. In this position, you will program and operate a range of sheet metal CNC machines, including punches, lasers, combos, press brakes, and machining centers. You will interpret project DXF files to plan the most efficient nesting, aiming to create an efficient flow and the highest quality possible. Your responsibilities will also include planning and programming sheet metal parts to increase raw material utilization, eliminate material waste, and ensure a streamlined flow of parts from machines to the next work centers. Additionally, you will identify and acquire the necessary tooling to complete job assignments, tool, sequence, and generate programs for all machines, and edit shop routings as necessary. Collaboration with the Purchasing department will be essential to ensure correct material ordering, and you will work with Engineering to provide feedback on designs and manufacturability, suggesting changes in design to reduce manufacturing costs. You will also verify the first article and perform in-process inspections to meet drawing requirements as needed. Creating thorough documentation and procedures to support shop production will be a key part of your role.

Responsibilities

  • Program and operate a range of Sheet metal CNC machines, punches, lasers, combos, press brakes, and machining centers.
  • Interpret project DXF files to plan the most efficient nesting to create efficient flow and highest quality possible.
  • Plan and program sheet metal parts efficiently to increase raw material utilization, eliminate material waste and ensure streamlined flow of parts from machines to the next work centers.
  • Identify and acquire tooling necessary to complete job assignments.
  • Tool, sequence, and generate programs for all machines.
  • Edit shop routings as necessary.
  • Work with Purchasing to ensure correct material ordering.
  • Work with Engineering as required providing feedback on designs and manufacturability, suggest changes in design to reduce cost in manufacturing.
  • Verify the first article and perform in process inspection to drawing requirements as needed.
  • Create thorough documentation and procedures to support shop production.

Requirements

  • Ability to program using nesting software, AMADA AP-100 preferred.
  • Must have a keen understanding of Flat Pattern Layout NC Operator knowledge and an understanding of G-Code preferred.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of CNC punch tooling.
  • Must have a working knowledge of ERP.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Able to work in a team environment.
  • Must be skilled in all aspects of programming, setup and operation of punch presses, laser machines, press brakes, and machining centers.
  • Must be able to read and interpret detailed engineering drawings of fabricated parts.
  • Able to read and write machine 'G' code specific to sheet metal programming preferred.
  • Must be familiar with all the basic inspection equipment micrometers, calipers, height gauge etc.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 years of industry related vocational training.
  • Five years of hands-on sheet metal manufacturing experience.
  • Five years related programming work experience.
  • AP-100 Programming experience preferred.
