About the position

Apple's Biophotonics team is seeking a seasoned process integration engineer to join their rapidly expanding silicon photonics group. This individual will be responsible for the exploration and development of advanced packaging processes, including but not limited to 2.5D and/or 3D integration of photonic integrated circuits. Additionally, this role is expected to drive subassembly-level reliability assessments of the prototypes developed by the team. As a key member of a multidisciplinary team working on the next generation of silicon photonics integrated circuits, this position will operate in a dynamic environment that demands a strong understanding of design specifications, deep knowledge of process capabilities and limitations, thorough data analysis, and exceptional communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Explore and develop advanced packaging processes for photonic integrated circuits.
  • Drive subassembly-level reliability assessments of prototypes.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team on silicon photonics integrated circuits.
  • Analyze data thoroughly to inform design and process decisions.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • MS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Optical Engineering with a background in semiconductor processing/fabrication and at least 2 years of industry experience.
  • Proficiency in process Design of Experiments (DOE) and Physical Failure Analysis (PFA).
  • Knowledge of statistical data analysis, with expertise in using relevant tools (e.g., JMP).

Nice-to-haves

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Optical Engineering with a background in semiconductor processing/fabrication.
  • Solid background in semiconductor process integration, particularly in assembly processes.
  • Experience in IC qualification and reliability testing.
  • Proven experience collaborating with external fabs/vendors.
  • Self-motivated, independent, and proactive in taking initiative.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly.
