About The Position

The Silver Sneakers Chair Yoga Instructor at the YMCA is responsible for creating a safe and welcoming environment for members participating in group exercise classes. This part-time role focuses on fostering relationships, educating participants about YMCA programs, and ensuring a fun and safe class experience. The instructor will engage with diverse participants and monitor their safety during classes.

Requirements

• Knowledge in group exercise instruction preferred.
• Ability to engage others in conversations and make all people feel welcome.
• Ability to respond calmly and quickly to safety and emergency situations.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills, with sensitivity and professionalism.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Meet all training requirements for the position in the specified timeframe.
• Base Certification Required: Group Exercise National Certification (ACE, AFAA, ACSM, NETA, or Foundations of Group Exercise at the Y).
• 200/500 hour Certification for Yoga Training.

Responsibilities

• Develop intentional relationships and create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants.
• Educate and inform participants about the Y Cause and other Y program offerings.
• Conduct classes in a quality, fun, and safe manner that results in increased attendance.
• Follow fitness trends and utilize prescribed formats when applicable.
• Identify participants who need additional support, such as new members and those with diverse abilities.
• Monitor and ensure the safety of all participants during classes.
• Provide excellent delivery of land group exercise instruction to all members.
