About The Position

Intuitive Surgical's product portfolio includes the da Vinci SimNow Simulator for use in the training of the da Vinci surgical systems. The da Vinci is used in minimally-invasive surgical applications. Virtual reality (VR) simulation plays an important role in the improvement of surgeon technical skills of robot-assisted surgery (RAS). The Simulation Learning Engineer position offers an opportunity for a candidate with strong interest in user technical skills learning, training, assessment and practice. The candidate will be involved in the design, development, validation and analysis of Intuitive's advanced technology learning solutions. This person will work closely with clinical and product education experts, human factors engineers/researchers, surgeons, software engineers, clinical engineers, interaction designers, and trainers to make sure the products achieve their learning objectives.

• Strong working knowledge of user research and user study design
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Hands-on experience in self-learning of technical skills
• Ability to learn and work independently
• Ability to understand complex systems from high level to low level components
• Excellent collaboration skills with various groups and management levels
• Ability to synthesize inputs from multiple stakeholders to plan project timelines and resources

Responsibilities

• Work under the guidance of the Sr Manager - Simulation Product Development
• Conduct background research on how novices acquire new technical skills, staying up to date on research publications
• Research how increasing engagement and immersiveness in serious games design can assist users in meeting their learning objectives
• Acquire hands-on experience on surgical robotics, simulators, video games, technical tasks, etc.
• Develop content design documents detailing learning objectives and exercise requirements for simulation exercises
• Collaborate with product development engineers to design simulation exercises that meet learning objectives
• Validate scoring and feedback of exercises with human factors researchers
• Ensure the learning experience meets objectives with human factors researchers and interaction/UX designers
• Collaborate with interaction designers to ensure user interfaces, real-time feedback, and scoring metrics meet learning objectives
