About the position

SpaceX is looking for an experienced Site Reliability Engineer with working knowledge of Kubernetes, Linux and related containerized technologies. This employee will be a member of the Information Technology Linux Infrastructure team and will provide expertise in Kubernetes design, maintenance, scaling and optimization in support of critical business functions. The ideal candidate will be flexible and flourish in a fast-paced environment while managing a fleet of Kubernetes clusters at scale. They should be a self-starter, self-motivator and possess ingenuity to excel at this position. In this role, you'll be helping SpaceX achieve its mission to make life multiplanetary by building and running large-scale, distributed, fault-tolerant systems. You'll help infuse SRE culture and practices across our teams and work with stakeholders to ensure we are successfully navigating the complex challenges of scale while we make our way to Mars.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in Day-0 to Day-2 operations supporting production Kubernetes installations.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and other Site Reliability Engineers to define requirements for Kubernetes deployments and automation.
  • Collaborate with leadership and stakeholders to ensure that our Kubernetes clusters are reliable, scalable and secure.
  • Collaborate with peers to develop and maintain automation and PaaS solutions that produce Kubernetes cluster deployments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or engineering discipline; OR 3+ years of professional experience with site reliability or DevOps in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience with Linux operating systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • 3+ years writing and deploying software applications in production.
  • 3+ years provisioning and administering Kubernetes clusters in production.
  • 3+ years architecting and maintaining tooling for automating Kubernetes cluster installation and lifecycle management.
  • 3+ years using Infrastructure as Code and GitOps patterns for managing infrastructure.
  • In-depth knowledge of Kubernetes architecture and common plugins.
  • Willingness to gain and maintain an active security clearance.
  • Experience deploying and administering on-premise or cloud-based Kubernetes cluster installations.
  • Experience with data structures/algorithms and software development in one or more programming languages.
  • Experience collaborating on shared source code using common source control systems.
  • Experience with provisioning and administering Linux operating systems, configuring installations, debugging and troubleshooting.
  • Experience deploying observability solutions for Kubernetes and Linux systems to measure and define SLOs/SLIs.
