You are an energetic and innovative professional with a strong understanding of Unix and Linux operating systems and a thorough understanding of computer hardware and efficient troubleshooting techniques. With at least five years of related experience, you understand networking principles and can troubleshoot including TCP/IP. Your skills in scripting (Python and PERL preferred) and virtualization are key assets. Responsibilities

  • Providing day-to-day and escalation support for Unix server and desktop systems at local and remote locations.
  • Installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Linux servers (both physical and virtualized).
  • Maintaining LDAP and DNS within our standardized environment.
  • Participating in frontline support rotation and responding to tickets.
  • Assisting in managing local datacenter operations, including physically moving servers and hardware (up to 40 lbs).
  • Collaborating with other IT teams to support hardware, software, and projects.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of Unix and Linux operating systems.
  • Thorough understanding of computer hardware and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Knowledge of networking principles and TCP/IP troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python and PERL.
  • Experience with virtualization and job scheduling software (Univa Grid Engine and IBM/Platform LSF preferred).
