About the position

At Alcoa, the Senior Mechanical Engineer plays a crucial role in providing day-to-day technical advice and problem-solving support to operations and maintenance teams. This position requires the application of engineering principles and reliability tools to drive problems to their root cause, ensuring that operations run smoothly and efficiently. The engineer will be responsible for initiating and implementing improvement projects that include engineering solutions aimed at eliminating safety and quality concerns, as well as addressing repetitive equipment failures and other operational issues, both major and minor. In addition to project management responsibilities, the Senior Mechanical Engineer will manage capital and expense project requests, including overseeing schedules and costs. Compliance with appropriate engineering standards is essential, and the engineer will be tasked with identifying and implementing new ideas and cost reduction opportunities. Addressing obsolescence issues with existing equipment is also a key responsibility, along with creating, maintaining, and updating equipment files and drawings. Furthermore, the engineer will develop preventative and predictive programs and systems to enhance process and equipment performance, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day technical advice and problem-solving support to operations and maintenance.
  • Apply engineering principles and reliability tools to drive problems to root cause.
  • Initiate and implement improvement projects to eliminate safety and quality concerns.
  • Manage capital and expense project requests, including schedules and costs.
  • Ensure compliance of project work with appropriate engineering standards.
  • Identify and implement new ideas and cost reduction opportunities.
  • Address obsolescence issues with existing equipment.
  • Create, maintain, and update equipment files and drawings.
  • Develop preventative and predictive programs/systems to improve process and equipment performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 8 years of relevant experience or a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology with 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Industrial experience is required.
  • Background in Reliability or Reliability tools (Infrared, Vibration, Oil Analysis) is helpful.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent computer skills (i.e.: Microsoft Office).
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent problem-solving and creative thinking skills.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams.
