About the position

The Social Emotional Support Specialist at Silicon Valley International School is a full-time role focused on supporting the social-emotional development of elementary-aged students (K-5th Grade). This position involves working directly with students during recess, lunch, after-school care, and camps to teach social-emotional skills and manage challenging behaviors. The specialist will collaborate with teachers and administrators to monitor student progress and implement positive behavior interventions, contributing to a respectful and inclusive school environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support to children during recesses, lunches, after school, and camps by teaching social-emotional skills.
  • Monitor student progress with behavioral techniques and communicate this information to classroom teachers and administrators.
  • Lead SEL lessons and character values lessons to students.
  • Build rapport with students and support their behavior outside the classroom with a positive approach.
  • Provide one-on-one and group support to children, modeling strategies for colleagues and assisting with challenging behaviors.
  • Record and analyze data relating to children's behavior and skill-building.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and the Student Services team to support children's learning and safety.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years experience working with children.
  • Associate's Degree or higher in Special Education, Education, Child Development, Social Work, Psychology, or a closely-related field.
  • Ability to work in a team setting.
  • Ability to analyze behavior, collaborate with adults, and develop positive relationships with students.
  • Skills in data collection, development of effective intervention plans, and implementation of positive behavior interventions and supports.
  • Evidence of experience and participation in professional development that supports behavior development in students.
  • Fluency in English for collaboration with colleagues and communication with students.

Nice-to-haves
