About the position

The Software Engineer - Regional Applications role involves providing specialized expertise in software systems and applications, focusing on analysis, technical support, and operational integration. The position requires a strong background in software engineering, particularly in Java/J2EE, and the ability to work independently in a dynamic environment. The engineer will also be responsible for mentoring junior engineers and may lead small teams in software-focused projects.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialized expertise within multiple systems and software disciplines.
• Perform in-depth analysis and technical support of systems software products.
• Maintain currency, debug, and configure related software products.
• Develop or modify operating systems applications from specifications.
• Assist with design, coding, benchmark testing, debugging, and documentation of programs.
• Interface with other system support groups to resolve problems and improve efficiency.
• Design, code, test, and implement tools for operations automation.
• Work on most phases of software systems programming applications with minimal guidance.
• Lead small software-focused teams as required.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience with an advanced degree or 9+ years with a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
• Strong Java/J2EE experience in software engineering and development.
• Experience in command and control system application development.
• Knowledge of Cyber Security/RMF requirements implementation.
• Ability to present advanced concepts to non-software engineers and military leaders.
• Proven ability to mentor and teach junior engineers.
• Experience with performance modeling and microservices.
• Experience with DevSecOps and build management.
• Experience designing and building Graphical User Interfaces.
• Flexibility and willingness to take on unanticipated tasks.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with automated testing and build pipelines.
• Knowledge of server-side/database development and system administration.
• Experience with agile development methodologies.
• Understanding of standard system engineering design artifacts such as Use Cases and SysML diagrams.
