About the position

The Solutions Architect at Berkshire Hathaway Energy is responsible for the creation, maintenance, and management of IT architecture models. This role involves interpreting and applying information from the IT architecture to support business improvement activities, particularly in the design, development, enhancement, and maintenance of IT support systems. The Solutions Architect ensures that the IT architecture aligns with the company's technology and governance strategies, policies, and standards, while also focusing on security and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Create, maintain, and manage IT architecture models.
  • Interpret and apply IT architecture information for business improvement activities.
  • Ensure alignment of business, application, data, and technology perspectives with company strategies.
  • Define principles, guidelines, standards, and solution patterns for enterprise architecture.
  • Design, develop, and lead implementation of solutions architecture for specific business applications or technologies.
  • Document all solution architecture design and analysis work.
  • Lead code reviews and provide consulting support to developers.
  • Perform project planning, system analysis, software design, coding, testing, documentation, and implementation.
  • Facilitate evaluation and selection of software product standards and services.
  • Design and direct governance activities for solutions architecture assurance and compliance.
  • Monitor current-state solution portfolio for deficiencies and misalignment with business requirements.
  • Understand technology trends and their application to business models.
  • Participate in meetings related to priority IT projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, or related technical field or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of six years of experience in at least two IT solution development disciplines.
  • Understanding of agile methods and processes.
  • Advanced knowledge of programming, integration, and application security models.
  • Expert knowledge of object design methodologies and architecture methodologies.
  • Advanced knowledge of relational database technology and software design patterns.
  • Effective project management skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of information technology terms, equipment, systems, functions, and major vendors.
  • General understanding of IT operating and capital investment budgets.
