About The Position

The Behavioral Intervention Specialist (BIS) plays a crucial role in identifying and addressing the habilitative, behavioral, and psychiatric needs of individuals with disabilities. This position involves conducting assessments, developing individualized support plans, and implementing evidence-based interventions to enhance the quality of care provided to clients. The BIS collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and trains staff to ensure effective implementation of behavioral strategies and support plans.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in psychology, social work, school psychology, or applied psychology related to human development and clinical interventions.
  • Documented training in assessment techniques and behavior support plan development.
  • Current license in Mental Health Counseling issued by NYSED or National Board certification in behavior analysis (BCBA).
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, and travel to multiple programs as needed.
  • Certification in Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention (SCIP-R) or SCIP-R Restrictive and CPR within six months of hire.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong understanding of intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) including autism spectrum disorders.
  • Knowledge of co-occurring psychiatric diagnoses such as mood disorders and anxiety disorders.
  • Familiarity with therapeutic effects of psychotropic medications.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based approaches like ABA, CBT, and DBT.

Responsibilities

  • Identify habilitative, behavioral, and psychiatric needs through assessments and collaboration with individuals and their support circles.
  • Conduct behavioral and habilitative assessments, including functional behavior assessments (FBAs).
  • Analyze data from various sources to support the development of hypotheses for behaviors.
  • Develop individualized habilitative and behavior support plans using proactive interventions.
  • Research and implement effective evidence-based treatment interventions.
  • Establish baselines for individuals prior to implementing support plans and design data collection systems.
  • Oversee day-to-day data collection by program staff and ensure timely modifications to plans based on individual needs.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and communication regarding individuals supported.
  • Train direct care staff on behavior management services and clinical interventions.
  • Evaluate and provide feedback to program staff regarding performance and competencies.
