About the position

The Benefits Operations and Retirement Plan Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting the Benefits Director in managing various benefit programs for over 3,500 employees across 400+ locations within the Archdiocese of Boston. This position involves the administration of medical, dental, life, and long-term disability insurance, as well as overseeing the 401(k) plan and other supplemental benefits. The role is primarily on-site with the potential for remote work one day a week.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the administration of the 401(k) Plan by reviewing payroll and 401(k) recordkeeper reports, ensuring compliance, and drafting communications.
  • Organize and execute the annual open enrollment process for medical and dental plans.
  • Manage data-intensive projects for recurring tasks and communication initiatives using Excel and multiple databases.
  • Oversee administration of supplemental benefits including FSA, supplemental life insurance, and vision plan.
  • Complete monthly self-billing for life, LTD, and stop loss coverage.
  • Assist with ongoing data scrubs and tactical changes in process or communications as needed.
  • Attend and present at meetings, which may require travel.
  • Respond to inbound calls and emails from employees regarding benefits issues and coordinate with vendors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field.
  • 2+ years of benefit plan administration and HCM experience, or equivalent experience in a multi-faceted role.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Strong Microsoft skills, particularly in Excel and Word.
  • Experience with online payroll and benefit enrollment systems and/or the administration of a 401(k) Plan is a plus.
  • HIPAA compliance training preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and work efficiently under pressure with shifting priorities.

Nice-to-haves

  • PHR or SPHR certification is a plus.
  • Experience in handling and producing confidential information.
  • Ability to work independently and support the mission of the Catholic Church.
