About The Position

The Coder Physician is responsible for reviewing medical records and performing coding on all diagnoses, procedures, DRG/APC, and charge codes. This role ensures the use of accurate codes for reimbursement, research, and quality care evaluation while maintaining patient confidentiality. The position requires a minimum of two years of experience in coding hospitalist encounters and familiarity with various specialties, with a preference for candidates experienced in family medicine clinic coding.

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of experience coding hospitalist encounters for hospital visits.
• Successful completion of an AAPC or AHIMA-approved Coding Certificate Program.
• Experience in coding for various specialties such as Pulmonology, Neurology, Wound Care, Endocrinology, Pain, Rehab, and Infectious Disease is a major plus.
• Preferred experience with Epic and Optum Encoder Pro.
• Must possess relevant coding certifications such as CPC, COC, CIC, RHIA, RHIT, CCS, and/or CCS-P.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in family medicine clinic coding is preferred but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

• Abstract, code, sequence, and interpret clinical information from various medical records including inpatient, outpatient, and emergency department records.
• Assign correct principal and secondary diagnoses and procedure codes with attention to accurate sequencing.
• Utilize technical coding principles and DRG/APC reimbursement expertise to assign appropriate codes.
• Abstract and code pertinent medical data into multiple software programs and/or encoders.
• Follow official coding guidelines to review and analyze health records.
• Maintain compliance with external regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as State and Federal regulations.
• Extract pertinent data from health records and determine appropriate coding for reports and billing documents.
• Identify codes for reporting medical services and procedures performed by physicians.
• Enter codes into various computer systems based on client requirements.
• Track and document productivity in specified systems, maintaining defined productivity levels.
• Maintain a 95% quality rating in coding accuracy.
• Perform duties in compliance with company policies and procedures, including HIPAA compliance.
